As emerging technologies transform our systems we need to construct a new synergy between public policy and institutions. Societal expectations of corporations are shifting, as public concerns grow about automation, trade, climate change and corporate ownership of personal data and other issues. Investor interests are evolving as data breaches and ethical scandals in numerous industries have wiped out billions of market value. These developments have produced a deficit of trust in corporations. Thus, not only public governance and policies are under pressure to modernize in Industry 4.0, but also corporate governance in which it is grounded.
