Several properties become important as the size of the particles decreases, e.g., the increase in surface area to volume ratio alters mechanical, thermal and catalytic properties of materials to a great extent. Use of nanotechnology may be a blessing to human society to have better health, safety and environment. A few important applications of nanotechnology in health may include in purification of water, air and soil; gas sorption, storage, and sensing, Bionanomaterials and Tissues Engineering, Biosensors, Diagnostics and Imaging, Materials for Drug and Gene Delivery. Nanotechnology in safety includes the efficient Fire control, development of durable and safe personal protective equipments (PPE), proper process safety management (PSM). The other applications may be Clean and Sustainable Technology, Energy Storage, Renewable Energy Technologies, Green Chemistry etc.
