Venice Summer Institute 2020: Emergence and Dynamics of Personality and Attitudes over the Life Cycle 8-9 June 2020 In light of persistent heterogeneity in economic outcomes at the individual and aggregate level, the role of heterogeneity in attitudes and preferences has gained increasing attention in economics. The emergence and development of personality traits are still not well understood, however. The symposium will provide a unique forum for discussing state of the art research on the emergence of personality traits and attitudes, on their life cycle dynamics and heterogeneity in their evolution across individuals and populations. Venice Summer Institute 2020: Media and Technology Influences on Economic Decision-Making 8-9 June 2020 Media and technology have the potential to alter the behavior and economic decision-making of individuals and firms in a variety of settings, including labor markets, politics, financial markets, and within the household. This is particularly true in the digital era with increased availability of new technologies and omnipresence of media via numerous mobile devices. What are the opportunities? What are the potential costs? Policy makers worldwide are concerned over the role of new forms of media in society, and whether they need to be regulated to prevent exploitation. This workshop will bring together researchers from various sub-fields of economics that study these topics. Venice Summer Institute 2020: Economics of Education and Equality of Opportunity 10-11 June 2020 Although there has been a dramatic improvement in education systems across the world, there still exists vast inequality in terms of access and learning in both developed and developing countries. This workshop will specifically address the current challenges from a policy standpoint and focus on equality of opportunity. Venice Summer Institute 2020: The Role of Firms in Migration Research 10-11 June 2020 The role of firms is important for our understanding of the economic effects of migration. Firms can influence the selection of migrants and their labour market integration. Vice versa, migrants can affect firm organization, productivity, innovation, and technology diffusion. The important implications of this research can help improve our understanding of firm performance, inequality and may help design more efficient and economically driven immigration policies. Venice Summer Institute 2020: Using Novel Methods and Data in Applied Microeconomic Research 12-13 June 2020 Increased availability of granular data and advances in data analysis are rapidly changing the way economic research is conducted. The workshop will bring together researchers at the frontier of methodological development and early adopters of these methods and data.
